The driver of a black Avalanche dodged a red Miata near the Midtown intersection of Central and Barksdale during lunch hour traffic. The driver of the Avalanche swerved over the curb of the intersection and struck a tree in the front yard of a home.
"The driver of the Avalanche was taken to the hospital," said an officer on the scene. "It's uncertain if the driver sustained any injuries, they were taken as a precaution."
Then just moments later and a few blocks away, a car slammed into the back of a Blum Tree Services wood chipper stopped at the light at Central and Cooper. It was also a red Miata. Police on the scene would not confirm both accidents were caused by the same car. According to police the Miata ran into the back of the stopped wood chipper. City police and fire department teams responded to a 9-1-1 call. Blum Tree Services also sent a response team to assess the damage.
"Our guy was taken to the hospital," said a Blum employee on the scene. "I have no idea what condition he is in. Guys are required to go to the hospital after situations like this one."
The driver of the Miata was taken into police custody. The vehicle had a Nevada license plate, but the name of the driver was not released.
