CBU Student Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Residence Hall
By Brett Martin/ MicroMemphis Reporter
April 4, 2012 Local police are investigating what students say was an armed robbery at Christian Brothers University around 9 pm Tuesday night. According to an emergency text sent to students at the university, campus police were the first to respond to a call at the Capstone Apartments, which are located near the northeast corner of the school. In a police report that MicroMemphis obtained from the Memphis Police Department, when police got to the scene at the student housing complex at 170 Oakdale Avenue, they found a female student on the ground near her apartment. However, she was unharmed during the incident. The victim told police that she was followed up the stairs by a black male believed to be in his 20s. He was wearing a white shirt and red Adidas shoes with black stripes. Once she opened the door, the man pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded her money. The suspect asked if anyone else was home, once she answered he told her to shut the door and he left immediately. |
CBU Campus Police and the Memphis Police Department are investigating the incident. No arrests have been made so far, however, while on the scene, officers viewed a surveillance video but were unable to see the suspect.
In an open Facebook group page, CBU students expressed concern about what they called a "lack of security" around the housing complex where the incident happened. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s with a "heart shaped" face. No one was harmed during the robbery. Students are told that information will be released by CBU police as it becomes available. |
Safety Alert sent to all CBU Students
