Tiffany Neely/MicroMemphis reporter @tiffanyreports Cooper-Young celebrates the 4th anniversary of Cooper-Young Night Out, also known as #CYNO! Cooper-Young has this night the first Thursday of every month. Live bands are seen and heard all through the neighborhood. Vendors from all over the city come to C-Y to promote the merchandise and attract customers to their business. The local businesses get a boost in revenue as well from the increase in crowds on the C-Y streets. This year a professional trapeze act set up at Midtown Motor Works to display their talents. |
First Thursdays of every month are known as a time when Cooper-Young residents can go out and enjoy the deals that local restaurants and businesses have to offer. April 5th marked the four year anniversary of Cooper-Young Night Out.
Employee of Glassworks Paige Ellens said this monthly event would not have been able to continue if the residents didn’t continue to come out. “Everybody being able to come out to eat and shop together just makes the event worthwhile,” said Ellens. "This area is a big family.”
Ellens said she believes this monthly event will continue grow. “You get to hangout with people you know and meet new people you didn’t know, it gives everybody something to look forward too,” said Ellens.
The latest addition to Cooper-Young area, Mulan Bistro, experienced a larger than normal Cooper-Young Night out crowd. After being in Collierville for eight years this restaurant opened its second location in Cooper-Young on February 27th. Manager Kenny Gu said Mulan usually doesn’t get a crowd until the weekend and for a Thursday night they were busy.
“We offered 50 percent off on our sushi and spring rolls and we saw about a 20 percent increase, said Gu. The restaurant manager said being in this neighborhood is totally different from Mulan’s East Memphis location. “In Collierville, it's more families that come out, so they come earlier in the day. Here, people keep coming all day — right up until closing time.”
Gu said he is looking forward to to next month’s night out. “We can offer more discounts on different items,” said Gu. “Here word travels fast so we’re trying do our best to please the area.”
