By BreAnna Boyd/MicroMemphis reporter
This week's featured restaurant is Jasmine Thai & Vegetarian Restaurant (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/50/777174/restaurant/Midtown/Jasmine-Thai-Vegetarian-Restaurant-Memphis) at 916 S. Cooper St.
Jasmine has been a local favorite for years for its Thai and vegetarian cuisine. There are a lot of health activists in the Cooper-Young area, including individuals who seek to better their health by eating better. There are a good number of items on the menu at Jasmine Thai & Vegetarian Restaurant that are both good in health and tasteful as well.
Many locals order the spring rolls with steamed rice. The spring rolls are a healthier choice because they consist of only vegetables with a lighter breading on the outside, with fewer calories. The steamed rice is a better health choice than fried rice because it is cooked in a different oil that consists of fewer calories.
The spring roll consists of 62-65 calories and the steamed rice has about 160 calories. So that's enough for one serving.
When choosing an item on the menu at a restaurant, it's best to weigh the differences between your options. Ask yourself, is fried healthier than steamed? Once you get in the habit of considering what your body is taking in, you are one step closer to living a heathier life.
Molly Racket is a resident of the Cooper-Young area who enjoys trying new things. “I loved the food. The place has a lot of healthy choices to choose from,” said Racket.
Theadrick Griffin is a new resident in the Cooper-Young area who is trying to lose weight. “I really liked this place. I shared two different entrees and they both were fantastic. Also, the staff was very attentive. Go and enjoy.”
Zeng Lui is an employee at the restaurant. “We receive a lot of different people,” Lui said. “Most of them have never tried Thai food before in their lives.”
Some of the customer's favorites on the menu are sauteed spring beans, spring rolls, and the vegetable pad Thai.
