David Walls, InsideOut day manager, explains spinning program
February 20, 2012
Inside Out, an independently owned health club, is one of the only fitness gyms in Midtown. Originally located on Young Avenue, its current location is off South Cooper Street.
"We're a little different from other gyms. We're very class-oriented, so we have a different vibe from other gyms," said day manager David Walls, who has worked at the club for six years.
Despite a decline in gym memberships across the country due to the economy, Inside Out gym has had a steady number of patrons at 500, not including walk-ins.
"Most of our members come from Midtown, but there are a few from Germantown and Collierville," Walls said.
A new program offered at the health club is the TRX program.
"It's basically a suspension program adapted from the Navy Seals. You can strap yourself to a tree or a bridge and get a workout," Walls said. "Once you do your TRX orientation, you can do your own thing."
Orientation sessions are every week for each class offered to help people to work out properly.
Another aspect to the health club is its rowing facility.
"We've got the only rowing program in town," Walls said. The rowing facility features mechanical rowers filled with water. "So your resistance is just like an actual boat. The water rowers work 98 percent of your muscle mass, so it works everything."
Want to relax? Inside Out gym also has an on-site massage therapist for deep tissue massages.
"As we age, gravity kind of pulls us forward in a hunch. The deep tissue massage is designed to get everything back in place," Walls said.
Yoga and Pilates classes are also offered at the health club for those looking to find balance in their lives.
