Third Week in a Row Storms Cause Property Damage on Oliver
By Lurene Kelley/MicroMemphis Editor
April 20, 2011
For the third week in a row April storms whipped through the Memphis area and landed on the same block of Cooper-Young. On Tuesday April 20th, a series of storms pounded the Memphis area knocking a huge tree into a home on the 2000 block of Oliver and damaging the front porch of the house nextdoor. A large branch fell onto the same street - blocking the road. Hundreds of Cooper-Young homes and nearby Peabody Elementary were without power for more than 24-hours.
This follows an April 11th storm that toppled a massive tree also on the 2000 block of Oliver. The tree damaged a fence and downed a powerline. The outage left residents on surrounding streets without power for nearly 12-hours.
Before that on April 4th the roof of another home on the 2000 block of Oliver was crushed by a huge, fallen tree limb.
