Tobey Skatepark shows life after a long winter

As the temperature starts to rise again, the Tobey Skatepark is starting to see an increase of guests coming out to enjoy the warm weather.
The skate park broke ground in June 2011 after almost five years of proposals and planning with the City Council.
Tobey Skatepark opened Nov. 2011 a little under a mile outside of the Cooper-Young neighborhood.
“I’ve been skating here the year it first opened,” said Max Evans, who attends Christian Brothers University. “My friends and I came here right after school and my mom used to get mad because I’d come before heading home to do homework. That next summer after it opened there was a lot of skaters out here.”
The park is a free area for all guests who wish to skate or just hang out.
There are plenty of ramps, stairs, and rails. Also, there are two bowls, a snake run and a large half pipe. When utilizing these features most people bring bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards and of course protective gear.
“I just come here to watch my little brother fall down when he attempts his little tricks, it keeps me going you know?” Said Kaitlin Morgan, a regular Tobey Park guest.
