Color Vibe 5K scheduled for May 11
For some, May 11 will be a day to don a traditional graduation gown for that long-anticipated walk across the stage, but for others, it will be a day blasted with color at the Color Vibe Color Blast 5k “fun run”.
Color Vibe is a 5k marathon tour that travels throughout the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and will be hitting Memphis on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Liberty Bowl Stadium. This 5k run is unlike many others because it’s all about fun. Runners won’t be timed, but the site guarantees “awesomeness” because having a great time is their main focus. “Hard races aren't fun. Hard races are hard!,” says the Color Vibe website, “We are a fun race with lots of color vibes, and we have lots of fun not racing!”
During the marathon, runners will be blasted with “magical color powder” by Color Vibe volunteers and workers. By the end of the race, “you’ll be an exciting and vivid masterpiece,” says the Color Vibe website. If you’re worried about the chemicals in the color that runners may be exposed to, don’t worry because the color is non-toxic and is custom made just for the Color Vibe 5k fun run. It consists of food grade quality cornstarch and is 100% safe according to the site.
It isn’t unusual for Color Vibe to sell out, as it has done so in many cities. For this reason, the website encourages interested runners to register as soon as possible. The late registration deadline is May 10, and costs $46. On the day of the race, if there are still spots available, the cost will increase to $50 until the event is sold out. Included with registration, runners will receive an official Color Vibe t-shirt, a Color Vibe color pack, and a prize.
Color Vibe teams up with the local charity of each city it hosts the 5k. The organization “is proud to help the local community, not only by bringing a ton of colorful happiness to your town, but also helping out your local charity,” according to the website, but there has not yet been a decision concerning which local charity will benefit from the color run. This has sparked concern among Memphians who want to run in the event. Heather Cook left a comment on the Color Vibe Facebook page expressing her concern. Her comment read, “I am a little worried about the fact that there has not been a charity picked out for this. Can someone tell me if they have chosen one and not posted it?”
There has been no word on the website about the charity yet, but in the meantime, people are suggesting their charities for the chance to have Color Vibe as a charity partner for the upcoming 5k. To suggest your charity for the 5k, email [email protected].
Register soon for the Color Vibe 5k, and become a piece of art for a day.
