___Microchips not enough for the owners of found dead pets

Microchipping is recommended for pet owners in case their beloved dogs or cats get lost. But it doesn't always guarantee a happy ending.
If a lost microchipped pet meets a tragic end, the city-run dead animal pick-up service doesn’t scan to contact the owner.

Memphis’s dead animal pick-up service doesn’t carry a microchip scanner, and has not budgeted to procure one.
