The cooler temperatures that ran through the Mid-South couldn't keep the dogs inside at the off-leash dog park in Midtown.
"The dog park was created as an off-leash opportunity for dogs to come out and play," said April Boleware of the CYCA, "I want the off leash dog park to be enjoyable for everyone."
The dog park located at 2599 Avery, is open all day till dusk, and offers dog owners a place to let pets run free in a fenced in area.
Pet owners from Cooper-Young gather at the dog park every Sunday. The Cooper-Young Community Association used the Sunday gathering as a way to kick-off Pet Safety Week .
The event featured local professional dog trainner, Elta Woodliff.
She offered tips to pet owners and treats to their respective four-legged friends.
"I am here to talk about the good, bad, and the ugly in a dog park," said Woodliff, " People that come to dog parks get to know their dog real well, but they may not know the other dogs behavior real well unless they play with them regularly."
Numerous pet owners came out to play catch with their canines, but Boleware says it’s most important that the dogs play well with each other.
"I want the off leash dog park to be enjoyable for everyone."
If you’re interested in bringing your dog to the park and seeing other people from Cooper-Young, every week people from the community gather for ‘Dog Park Sunday’ from 2-4.
