Restaurant Health Card: Celtic Crossing

By BreAnna Boyd/MicroMemphis reporter
This week on BreAnna’s Restaurant Health Card is Celtic Crossing.
Celtic Crossing is an Irish Pub and Restaurant located at 903 South Cooper. Typically when you think of Irish foods, you think of starches, but this restaurant focuses on giving customers a healthy Irish experience. They offer brunch on Sunday; drink specials, parties, and private events.
The Irish culture is known for having a specific interest on meat, cereals, bread and potatoes. The culture is also known to favor fresh vegetables. The most popular flavors that they use are garlic and scallions. Celtic Crossing’s menu consists of an array of seafood, such as salmon and mussels. Their meat dishes consist of high quality beef, which is an important health factor. The restaurant also follows the Irish tradition with boiled cabbage, potatoes, and stew. Also, eggs are a very common item that they typically serve in different ways.
“We just recently extended our vegetarian menu,” said Sky White, the manager at the Celtic Crossing.
One popular healthy item on the entrée menu is the grilled Atlantic salmon. It consists of a grilled filet served with Irish potato stuffing and grilled asparagus. There are roughly 230 calories in an average serving of grilled salmon. It is very healthy because it produces Omega 3 minerals and antioxidants that your body needs.
Celtic Crossing’s side dishes consist of sweet potato fries, which give customers a healthier choice than the common French fries, along with seasonal vegetables and mixed vegetables.
Jane Whitfield, a resident of the Downtown area, said she wanted to try out Celtic Crossing after researching it online. “My dad is Irish,” she said.
Celtic Crossing is open seven days a week until 3 a.m.
