HYPERLOCAL NEWS HUB BY THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS DEPARTMENT OF JOURNALISM
The couple opened up Hub Automobile in September of 2012 and said business has been fairly decent for the first couple of weeks.
Brunson said his connection to automobiles is rooted in his upbringing.
"My dad was a mechanic so I've always had a fondness for automobiles."
The twelfth grade came pretty fast for Brunson and he said needed some kind of plan. Brunson decided to follow in his dad's footsteps and went to automotive school in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Much like Brunson's journey into auto repair, the journey to Cooper-Young was in the cards.
Once the Monroe, North Carolina native met the love of his life, Jennifer, he followed her to Memphis.
Brunson said after years of seeing how ready-made shops handle business and the fact that he did not want to drive too far from own home, he decided to open his own shop, which is located right across the street from his mother-in-law's house, off of Medina and York.
When it comes down to it, Brunson said he wants to be a benefit to his neighborhood.
"I want to serve my community," said Brunson.
The shop aims to bring dealership-type service while maintaining the Cooper-Young feel.
The Hub's rates start at $75 a hour but Brunson said his hourly rate is flexible depending on the automobile issue.
In addition to those incentives, Cooper-Young Association members get a 10-percent discount and free clinics where customers can come in and learn how to change a tire or a headlight.
The couple said they plan to have a grand opening sometime between October 20th and the 28th, "it depends on our five-year-old's birthday party," Jennifer said.
Brunson said Hub Automotive will be looking for a new employee in the next few weeks.
