C-Y Organization Teaches Kids Ballet, Other Dance Styles

By Louis Goggans/MicroMemphis reporter

The New Ballet Ensemble, located at 2157 York Ave., is providing the city's youth with the opportunity to learn the true essence of dance.

The organization was founded in 2001, but has been located in the Cooper-Young community since 2006.

It's dedicated to giving kids of all races and walks of life the opportunity to participate in dance classes. Furthermore, for those unable to pay for classes, the organization allows them the chance to learn for free.

Katie Smythe, the founder and director of NBE, said the organization is an arts-education program, as well as a bridge building community.

"What better neighborhood to do that in than Cooper-Young," she said.
