Cooper-Young's quarterly cleanup is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at the gazebo at the corner of Cooper and Young.
Many community joggers and bicyclists look forward to this event because it's a huge benefit to those who are very active in the community.
"I look forward to this event, because it makes exercising for me easier when I can run in the mornings without there being trash on the sidewalks," said Josh Patterson, a daily runner of the Cooper-Young area.
For cyclists, a clean neighborhood promotes a smooth ride.
"Riding is a part of my life,” said Janet Thompson, a bicyclist who rides weekly in the Cooper-Young area. “The Cooper-Young area has been very active in keeping the neighborhood clean for years."
The coordinators of this event allow not only Cooper-Young residents but Memphians as a whole to take part in helping the community. Cooper-Young has a large community base of joggers and bicyclists, and many say that health matters in Cooper-Young and keeping the community clean is a huge benefit to those who are very active.
Andrew White, a jogger in the Cooper-Young area, said he has been a resident of the area for three years.
"It really encourages others around you to keep the community clean, when the community itself is hosting events to promote it," said White.
