The railroad underpass, which combines Cooper-Young and Central Garden, was formerly a main attraction for urban art. The length of the underpass is approximately 2600 square feet.
Residents of Cooper Young feel that this particular area would represent a significant, enduring piece of art.
Michelle Reeves, Planner of Project said “the railroad underpass would represent a home mark and community silhouette. Also, it would draw attention to new neighbors, bikers, and even tourists.
Reeves announced as well as that zip codes including 38104 and 38114 would be designed into the silhouettes.

However, volunteers and materials are still needed for this project. These materials consist of rollers, ladders, paint supplies, and etc.
Therefore, donations are still accepted to fund this project.
The approximate total for this project ranges from 500 to 800 dollars.
Kristan Huntley, director of Cooper Young Community Association says “The process should be ready for display by this following August.” “However, it’s still $500 or less from being fully-funded.
Arts of March already raised about 330 dollars, and other promised funds were 100 dollars, which 430 dollars, thus far.
The Gorilla Art was a popular, temporary art piece that was completed before the South Barksdale Underpass. Many residents remembered this art piece from its history and value.
Yvonne Blaire, a new resident in Cooper Young says “I’m excited about this new project and I can’t wait to see the outcome, when it’s finished.”
There are still ways to contribute to this project such as cleaning up, supplies, painting and funding.
